Guided Rides - The Legal Stuff
Our rides will follow quiet country lanes exploring the countryside and villages around the market town of Halesworth. The pace will be leisurely with frequent rest stops and will always travel at the speed of the slowest rider.
We welcome all cyclists of all ages to join and enjoy our rides. Unaccompanied children must be over the age of 18 and proof of age may be required.
All the rides are listed on the 'Rides Calendar', and full details of the next ride including distance and duration are on the 'Next Ride' page.
Rides are free of charge, just turn up at the start point at the time indicated. If you enjoy the ride donations to Sustrans are welcome.
All our rides will be led by Ride Leaders who act in a voluntary capacity and have experience in leading cycle rides. All ride leaders are volunteer Rangers for the charity Sustrans and rides will run under the Sustrans 'Fresh Air Miles' scheme.
Ride Leaders will always be at the start of each ride whatever the weather. If the Ride leader decides that a ride would be unsafe due to poor weather conditions, the ride will be cancelled at the start point.
A short safety talk at the start of each ride will give instruction on cycling in a group and is there solely to enable you to enjoy your ride under the safest of conditions.
Before joining a ride especially if this is your first ride for some time or you are new to cycling, it is essential that your bike is safe to ride and in good working order. A good bike shop will check it over for you. The ride leader will not allow you to join the ride if it is felt your bike is not safe to ride.
Please ensure:
- Tyres, brakes, gears and chain are in good order.
- All nuts and bolts are tightened
- You have a spare inner tube and pump with you.
- You have lights with you, especially for evening rides, but also for bad weather.
Be prepared, it is always useful to carry:
- Light waterproofs and adequate clothing to keep warm and dry should weather conditions change.
- Drinking water and a snack bar in case hunger and low energy overtake you.
- Sunscreen.
Ride Leaders although not trained ' First Aiders' will carry a basic First Aid kit and will carry charged mobile phones in case of emergency. Ride Leaders will carry a basic tool kit including a puncture repair kit, but it is always good practice to carry your own spare inner tube and a few basic tools.
Cycling is a good way to achieve fitness and is good for your health, but if you have known medical conditions please discuss with your GP your intention to cycle before joining the rides. You may also wish to inform the ride leader of any medical conditions that might affect the ride before you start a ride.
Although Public liability insurance will be provided for the rides by Sustrans, this coverage is only for accidental injury or loss where negligence can be proved. It is your responsibility to arrange insurance against loss/damage to your bike and for personal accident cover and we strongly recommend you arrange personal liability insurance for all your cycling activities.
