Close to Halesworth on the 24th April 2015 listening to Skylarks. Today our ride was 12.5 miles through Walpole,
passing Heveningham Hall and onwards to Huntingfield. After a short uphill section we free-wheeled down into Cookley and back to Halesworth.

Situated in NE Suffolk and surrounded by quiet country lanes and beautiful countryside, Halesworth is a great location for exploring this part of Suffolk by bike. The small bustling town famous for its traffic free shopping street - The Thoroughfare - is full of independent shops and there are many cafes, pubs and restaurants serving refreshments.

Only 10 miles from the Suffolk coast and the seaside town of Southwold, Halesworth is the ideal starting point for a bike ride to the coast as well as for setting out in all directions to discover the true flavour of rural Suffolk.

From May 2013 why not try the new Halesworth off-road all weather cycle track? Starting at the entrance to Town Park the 1.4 km track meanders through the picturesque 55 acre Halesworth Millennium Green. Not only a community facility providing cycle, walking and wheelchair access to the Green and beyond, it will also become part of the re-aligned National Cycle Route 1 (NCN1). The cycle track will provide a safe traffic-free route out of town to quiet lanes and the Halesworth Wheel Cycle Ride.

Click on the 'Halesworth Wheel Map' tab for a map and route notes to a 21mile or less bike ride around our local villages. Click on 'Guided Bike Rides' if you fancy joining us on a regular local guided ride led by trained leaders. These rides will always cater for the slowest rider and will be taken at a leisurely pace. A calendar of rides with route details for 2013 is provided.

To the north the small towns of Beccles and Bungay and the seaside town of Lowestoft can easily be reached, where the Suffolk and Norfolk Broads and the Waveney Valley can be explored. Make use of the Ipswich to Lowestoft rail line by cycling to any station and catching the train back to Halesworth.

Come and spend a few days in this area - there is plenty of holiday accommodation in Halesworth and the surrounding countryside. Access to the town could not be easier, National Cycle Route 1 on its 1740 mile route from Dover to the Shetland Isles passes through the town along the Thoroughfare. By train, Halesworth station is served by the London Liverpool Street line via Ipswich to Lowestoft, or by car the A12 Ipswich to Lowestoft road passes nearby.
